A CHALLENGE FOR THE FEW, ON THE ROADS LESS TRAVELLED

DAY BY DAY

  • Distance: 109 Km | Total Ascent: 2610 m

This day should set the tone of our 3 day ride camp. If you are here to train in beautiful quiet scenery and push your limits, you’ve come to the right place.

We’ll set o early in the morning to beat the heat. The general rule for today is: If we are not going up we are going down, if we are not going down, we are going up. So prepare your gels, electrolytes and your appetite for KOMs!

Our ride heads up to towards the mountain through the quiet village of Lysos. Once we’ve left it behind us there will be nothing but pine trees in your way. At the top is the location “Stavros tis Psokas”, a campsite for the lovers of nature and a forest station. A short decent will lead us to the Cedar Valley, probably the most serene point of our route. Let’s take a breather here, most of the climbing is already behind us. The descend will keep you on your feet with some hairpin turns and astonishing views. Passing through the Kannaviou Reservior we’ll head toward Polis, our home for the next two nights.

Feet up ladies and gents, it’s time to refuel and rest!

    Accommodation: 4* Hotel, Polis Chrysochous

  • Distance: 91 Km | Total Ascent: 1830 m

This day starts with the best warmup possible, the longest stretch of coastal road in the country! Keeping the sea on our left we’ll head east through the softly rolling coast between Polis and Pachyammos. The warmup will last for the rest 25km of the day, it’ll be plenty to shake of the numbness from yesterdays efforts. In the beach town called Pachyammos (meaning “thick sand”) we’ll start climbing for the mountains and the thick pine forest. We’ll reach the same mountain top as yesterday, the forest station at “Stavros tis Psokas” location. This side of the mountain is longer and more windy. Keep your eyes open, for this area is the home of the mouflon (Cypriot endemic deer, a protected species that only lives in this small corner of the world). Once we’ve reached the top we’ll descend to the forest station for a cols home made lemonade or a coffee. The descend today is fast and open, leading straight to our town, Poli Chrysochous.

    Accommodation: 4* Hotel, Polis Chrysochous

  • Distance: 80 Km | Total Ascent: 1740 m

On this final day we’ll explore the area south of Polis. We’ll ride through numerous traditional stone built villages many of which preserve their original form and character. Something really quaint and welcoming that every visitor should experience! Watch our for the occasional herd of goats crossing the road!

The ride today is hilly with many climbs and descends that might be shorter than the ones we’ve already tackled but can be much steeper too. This last ride won’t leave you unstained! There will be plenty of opportunities to stop along the way and have a traditional sweet (calorie bomb for fast uphill propelling) or a mahallepi (one of the most unusual summer deserts of Cyprus, destined only for those of you who are adventurous eaters!).

Once we are back at the hotel, it’ll be time for goodbyes. Do not worry though, in most cases it’s a see you again.
