Alex Fortune from the U.K is the winner and new record man of the O3 Olympus Man

The triathlete from the U.K has won the hardest triathlon race of Cyprus and has broken the race record with 5:51:31 total time, last Saturday (17/11)

In one of the toughest triathlon race of Europe, in a total distance of 109.6km, with over 3000m ascent, Alex Fortune won the race with relative ease, beginning from Kato Paphos sea and finishing on the peak of Olympus in 5 hours 51 minutes and 31 seconds. This is the best performance in the history of O3 Olympus Man, which takes place since 2015. Fortune is the first athlete who finished the race in less than six hours.

Stavri Pericleous was the winner in the Women’s category, with 7:36:12 total time. Force Bikes was the winner of the Teams’ category, finishing in 5:57:16, with Demetriou finishing the swim race in 0:39:30, Jones the bike race in 3:28:53 and Fletcher the running in 1:48:52. This year’s total participation was a record for Cyprus’ toughest triathlon race, as 51 athletes took part in the race.

«A unique race»

The hyper – athletes began the race with 1.9km of swimming at 6.30a.m, at the Municipal Baths of Kato Paphos. They continued with 85km of cycling from Paphos to the Troodos Square and 21km of running, along the Artemis and Atalantis pathways, finishing at the peak of Olympus. O3 Olympus Man is a half – Ironman race, and the toughest triathlon race that takes place in Cyprus. Athletes were finishing the race until the sunset and the award ceremony took place at Troodos Hotel, at the Troodos Square.  

«I participate in Ironman races for ten years now. This is a very unique race, and I recommend it to all triathletes» stated Alex Fortune, who participated for the first time in the O3 Olympus Man. What makes the race so unique is the great altitude difference from the sea lever to the top of the mountain, and also the mesmerizing views of the Cyprus nature.

O3 Olympus Man projects in just one day, all the aspects that of the Cyprus has to offer to its visitors, from the sea and the sun, to green Troodos and Cyprus’ green heart, as the athletes run along the Diarizos valley, to the wine roads, to Platres and Prodromos in the majestic Troodos paths, which are very famous all over Europe.
